Moving from Cursor
beafk is not an editor and does not ask you to give one up. What carries over, what does not, and why there is no arrangement here that two other companies can end.
Moving here is not a migration. beafk does not replace the thing you type code
in — it replaces the part of an AI editor that is not editing: the agent, the
model behind it, and the arrangement that puts the two together.
Keep your editor
Cursor, VS Code, Zed, Vim, whichever it is — keep it. beafk runs on the machine
your code is already on, installs the CLIs their makers ship, and gives you one
chat to steer them from, including from a phone with the laptop shut.
What beafk is.
There is no deal here to end
This is the whole of the difference and it is worth being plain about.
A product that resells somebody else's model has a contract with that model's
maker. A contract can end, for reasons that have nothing to do with you and
nothing to do with the product.
beafk has no such contract, because beafk sells no model. The CLIs are their
makers' own binaries, installed on your machine and signed in with your
accounts: Claude Code with Anthropic, Codex with OpenAI, Grok Build with xAI,
Kimi Code with Moonshot. Every message goes on the subscription that agent is
signed in with, and what we charge for is the machine.
Which agents beafk runs,
what it costs.
So there is nobody in the middle here to fall out with anybody. The account is
yours, the CLI is its maker's, and if one of the four stops being worth paying
for you cancel that one — the other three do not notice.
What carries over
Nothing is imported for you. This is where the same settings live once you are
here, and each of them is written once and then delivered to every CLI in the
format that CLI wants — see
keeping every CLI in sync.
A crew is the row worth reading twice: one job, several CLIs, one thread that
the answers all come back to.
What does not
- The editor itself. No file tree, no buffer, no cursor in one. The panel is
where you read diffs, look at screenshots and answer an agent that is stuck —
it is not where you type code.
- Inline completion. There is no suggestion as you type, because there is no
buffer here to suggest into.
- A model you are not already paying for. One subscription is enough to
start with; none is not.
The rest of the honest list is what beafk does not
do.
