# Workspaces

> Who you share machines with. On your own you have one and never think about it; with a team it is the team.

A **workspace** is who a set of machines belongs to.

On your own, you have one, it was made when you signed up, and you can forget it
exists.

## Why they exist

A machine belongs to exactly one workspace. A colleague who joins on Monday
sees the workspace, and the machines you have shared with them, from their
own browser — nothing to pair. A machine you connect is yours until you
share it. See [who may open what](https://beafk.app/docs/who-may-open-what.md).

## Being in more than one

You can be. Your own, and your employer's. Or two clients.

The switcher is in beafk cloud, at the head of the rail — the top bar on a
phone. Changing workspace changes which machines you see, which team you are in
and which bill you are looking at. Nothing crosses between them.

Every switch is checked with the identity service, scoped to the workspace you
are moving to. The list you see is not what decides what you can reach.

## Making another

From the workspace menu. Useful for keeping a client's machines separate from
your own, or a personal fleet from a company one.

Each workspace has its own plan and its own bill. A machine cannot be in two.

## Moving a machine between them

Disconnect it from one and connect it to the other. There is no transfer button:
the machine says which workspace it belongs to by signing a code, and that is
the only claim we can verify. See
[disconnecting a machine](https://beafk.app/docs/disconnecting-a-machine.md).

## Who you are

Your name, your email and your picture come from whoever you signed in with —
see [signing in](https://beafk.app/docs/signing-in-to-beafk.md).

## Leaving

You can leave a workspace you were invited to. If you are its last admin, hand
it over first — see [inviting people](https://beafk.app/docs/inviting-people.md).
